On the left, you can see a man looking crossly at two people who are having a good smooch. The man is consumed by jealousy, and his face shows just how angry these two lovers make him.

You might think (or hope) that this a really hot book. You wouldn't be wrong: it is! The picture is from a French book called The Romance of the Rose. The story is an allegory: that means that the people and events actually represent something else. In this case, it's all about religion, and love and sex. The book was written in two parts, by two different writers.
🍆💦
The first part is about a knight, Amant, who is searching for a rose. The actual meaning is that Amant wants to unite with God. Skip the first part to get straight to the hot scenes in part two: this is where Amant really goes for it including, you've guessed it, an orgasm. Was this book the Mediaeval Porn Hub? Not really: In the Middle Ages, books were a lot more expensive than an internet connection nowadays – think Ferrari-expensive.
In the picture, you can see Jealousy, another character that symbolises something else, trying to stop Amant getting any further than cuddling.
📖
This was one of the most popular French Mediaeval books. It was written in the thirteenth century by Guillaume de Lorris and Jean de Meun. This version was produced around 1350.
